Tsipopita and an update

It's been a while since my last post and I just wanted to keep you updated as I will continue my break indefinitely, until I am ready to come back.  I hope that you have missed me as much as I have missed all of you.

I am really sorry I haven't been visiting your blogs but it's been very hot and unbearable to stay inside.

On the other hand, I've been making a few changes in my lifestyle.  I have visited a dietitian so I am on a proper diet now and although I cook almost every day, I am eating healthy food, which has already been posted on the blog.   Although I have lots of older recipes which I can post, however, I don't want to be tempted by reading recipes all day.   I have been walking an hour a day and most of the mornings we go for swimming, I relax more, spend more time with my family, watch T.V., go out more often, so even if I wanted to, there isn't much free time left.

The great news is that I have already lost 8 kilos but there is still a long way to go until I reach my goal.

We have not been on vacation this year but hope to get away for a few days in August.

It's been ages since I last made a dessert, but since we shall be going to Nafplion tomorrow, I have prepared a new recipe called Tsipopita, which will be given away to our contractor and  I would like to share it with you.   The house is almost ready and hopefully we shall be relocating sometime between September or October.

Tsipopita is a traditional Cypriot dessert (pita) made with home made phyllo and tsipa, which is the name of the butter used.

This  pita is traditionally made with layers of homemade phyllo which are brushed with tsipa and then ground cinnamon and cloves are sprinkled between each layer of phyllo.   It is then rolled, baked  and drenched in an armatic sugar syrup.

It is something between baklavas and daktyla and hope you will enjoy it!   You can find the recipe here

    1. @ Penny: the beach is in Assini (Argolida), Peloponese.
@ Eftychia: I know it's difficult and it took me a few months to prepare myself psychologically and decide it was about time. I think you can make it as well.
@ Rosa: Thanks Rosa. Shall be thinking of you.
      @ Joan: Thanks Joan.
@ Anna: thank you Anna. It's not as difficult as it looks. Buy a pasta machine and you will be amazed how easy it is.
@ Caffettiera: Thank you caffettiera. Sorry to hear about your weather. Here it's entirely the opposite.

  1. Congratulations on the 8 kilos. I am happy to hear that you are having a good time, although I miss reading your posts and hearing from you...

That is one wonderful looking dessert!

Please think of me when you will be in Nafplion! I love this place... 🙂

    Cheers,

    Rosa

  2. I have certainly missed you Ivy! But I don't blame you for staying away from the cyber webs -- you have your reasons and the weather is great. Congrats on your weight loss and dedication and commitment to feel better. I have never had or heard of tsipopita... it looks divine! I will have to try this sometime although making my own phyllo scares me.

  3. I certainly have been missing you! I have to say I do envy a bit your current lifestyle.. going to swim and walk and taking good care of yourself. Well done on the weight loss! Here in Germany it is gray and rainy and cold and I could certainly do with staying outside a bit more.

  4. Hi Ivy, I missed you! you're right, I also had a break not from coooking but from posting...too much food e too little time for the real life, gamily, friends, books, nature...I hope to find the balance. I wanted to tell that today I upladed the pdf with phyllo recipes, it's only in Italian and I did the translation of your recipe. Wish you agreat summer!

    1. Hi Ancutza and thank you very much for translating my recipe in Italian. This is fantastic and it's like a whole book with phyllo recipes. For my readers who know Italian, please check out this link with amazing recipes. Baci

  5. I'm glad to hear you're doing well Ivy! You are an inspiration. Your dessert looks lovely - so unlike the desserts I am used to. Eating one would be such a treat!
