Two Giveaways of Kopiaste Cookbook and more to follow

The first dusting of snow arrived this morning and it’s windy and  cold outside.  The temperature suddenly dropped from 22 degrees C yesterday to 4 degrees C today.  I hope that this will not last for long as I  don’t like cold weather.

Yesterday we went to Nafplion.    You can see a video I took a couple of years ago here.   There is great news behind this visit but I don’t want to get into this right now as I want to focus on the book and the  giveaways.

For those who may not know yet, the cookbook was published on Thursday.   I made a quick post on Thursday to announce it as we were going away the next day and today there is  more to add to that post before announcing the giveaway:

I know that the price may seem high for a lot of you but taking into consideration the time needed to write a cookbook, the expenses paid, taxation etc., this was the best price I could offer, retaining a small profit for myself.

After the publication of the book I can now see the shipping expenses, which are also very high, unless you live in USA or Canada.  I was quite shocked to see that you need to pay $13 to get the book to Greece or Cyprus.  My profit is WAYYYY lower than that amount.

CreateSpace does not offer Paypal:  You can use paypal by paying me directly $27.50, but my  gift to you  from today and until Christmas is to waive the shipping expenses.    (Please bear in mind that I have no discount on the shipping expenses.  These will be paid out of my profit.  For some destinations I may still have a small profit but for longer destinations, I may be even or even pay out of my pocket).

I shall try and make some contacts with bookshops in Greece & Cyprus but until then, I have ordered some books which will be sold directly by me here in Athens and by a relative of mine in Cyprus.  You can contact me for more information.

      Nothing beats pan friend halloumi. Try it with caramelized dry fruit. I have the recipe in the cookbook.

    One of my favorite recipes Fassolakia Yiahni~ I've tried it and my whole family loves it. Also, we use your pizza dough recipe for our pizzas.

      Fassolakia yiahni is not in the cookbook but pizeli gahni is, which is a similar recipe. The pizza dough is in the book, as well as a recipe using leftovers.

    sheftalia is the quintessential cypriot village taste. open pita with freshest cypriot herbs and salad n just a dash of lemon.
    Cant beat it and cant find a good one in Australia!

      Sheftalia is a must in all Cypriot cookbooks. It is definitely in mine and I really know how to make the best sheftalia.

    Have to confess that Cypriot cuisine (except what I've se seen on your blog) is totally new to me, so maybe I'll start with your book.

      I can understand Aparna. The same applies to me but now that the book is over I will definitely have more time to visit my friends and you are one of them. I am sure you have tried something if you have tried Greek recipes as most recipes are the same.

      Rachel, the Cypriot tzatziki is called "Talatouri" and this is in the mezedes section. Talatouri is different to tzatziki as it has mint in it.

      Είναι δυνατόν να λείπουν οι φλαούνες από το βιβλίο μου; Έχω ειδικό κεφάλαιο πώς γίνεται το φύλλο.
      Eva said that she likes "Flaounes", which is a cheese bread or rather it is rolled phyllo with cheese. I just explained that this recipe is in the cookbook as well and there is a tutorial on how to make your own dough and method to roll it out on the pasta machine but also manually.

    My Cypriot friend Thekla brought us some haloumi. She paired it with cucumbers for a great combo. Then we ate loukoumades for dessert. Simple and satisfying.

      Halloumi and cucumber is a wonderful combo. The only thing missing is some "zivania" or "ouzo". Loukoumades or lokmades, as they are called in Cyprus, (fried yeast batter, like doughnuts) is also in the cookbook. They differ from loukoumades made in other parts of Greece as they have potato in them.

      Elioti is homemade pastry filled with olives. A perfect savory snack and yes, that's in the book as well. Jenny, unfortunately it won't be on Amazon.UK. It will be on Amazon.com but as they told me it will take them about one month to activate the book on Amazon.

      I've never heard any one in my whole life who does not like either of the above two. Even my son who didn't use to eat cheese as a child, he loved halloumi.

      Xanthi, says she likes sheftalia and remembers eating some kind of potatoes in Cyprus. I suppose she is referring to patates antinahtes, baby potatoes, cracked and cooked with red wine and dried coriander seeds. Of course, that's in the book as well.

  24. I LOVE tsatziki, especially with honey glazed pitta bread. I'm not sure if that's strictly cypriot food though? In which case, I would say moussaka. I've never made cypriot food but I'd love to learn how to. If I won, I would totally love trying out all your recipes!

      Hello Sharon. Halloumi is indigenous to Cyprus, so yes it is Cypriot food. Pita is also in the book and there are 2 moussaka recipes, the classic one and a vegan moussakas.

      Giota likes halloumi on the grill but also in salads with balsamic vinegar. I have three different salads using grilled halloumi: with watermelon, with grapes and with figs.

    I'd love to win a copy of course!! First because I am half Cypriot 🙂 (my mother is from Cyprus), second because I love the Cypriot recipes… and third my favorite is "pourekia". I used to make them with my grandmother… I'll never forget the smells and the taste…

      There are three Bourekia recipes is in the book: Bourekia me anari (with white whey cheese similar to ricotta, as a dessert), with minced meet and with mushrooms (vegan).

  28. Halloumopita! Any sort of bread with cheese is yummy! But I add roasted garlic and fresh cracked pepper to mine. I really need to make this again, it's been a while!

  30. Congrats again Ivy! There is much I like about Cypriot cuisine … from the flaounes, to the seftalia, to koupepia, to pites stuffed with lountza and halloumi … and on the sweet side soutzouk and daktyla. I only wish I can visit beautiful Cyprus sometime soon.

As a Cypriot who recently moved to Greece I love reading your blogspot and it makes me proud to see that your book with Cypriot recipes has been published. As my favourite food I would choose fakoryzo moutzientra. I think the much derided pulses have a huge role in authentic Cypriot diet.

      Hello Elpis, I am glad you have left a message. Are you in Athens? Moutzentra is of course in the cookbook as well and I have heard a lot of nutritionists mentioning on T.V. about the benefits of this Cypriot dish. It is perfect for vegetarians as it is dried legumes with a lot of protein,

    Καλορίζικο το βιβλίο σου! I love many Cypriot dishes like afelia and koupes. Cyprio "meze" is probably one of the most delicious experiences I have ever had. Pity about the post expenses, but it is really nice of you to offer free postage. I wish you great sales!

      Thank you Joanna. I think you are the first to mention koupes. Unfortunately this must be the only recipe I do not have in the cookbook, not because I can't make them but I didn't have any fine bulgur wheat to take a better picture.

  38. I made halloumi a little while ago, and even though it was only a shadow of the real thing, we liked it a lot. I think it is a great cheese, versatile and delicious. Grilled halloumi is my choice.
